Yesterday was my polypectomy/NovaSure procedure. My mom slept over Tuesday night so that she could take me to the hospital. Of course, as soon as we went to get in the car, it started absolutely DOWNpouring. Just torrential rain. The highway was a mess. The road leading to the hospital was like a river. Gah. So glad we got there safely!
After a bit of a wait, I had to give a urine sample (the guy handed me a test tube and a cup--thank God I was supposed to pee in the cup first, THEN pour it into the tube. Not sure I could aim that accurately! ha!) and a blood sample (they wanted to check my hemoglobin----it hasn't gone up at all. Still a 7.2.).
Then a bit more waiting, and the nurse took me back to change and to wait for the anesthesiologist (oh my goodness, I spelled that correctly on the first try!). I wasn't able to take my toe rings off and didn't know if that was going to be a problem. Thankfully, they just taped up the rings and had me sign a waiver.
Two tries for the IV line, and I was good to go. Mom was able to hang out and wait with me until an OR opened up. Another nurse came and gave me 'something to relax me', they wheeled me in, made me transfer to a different bed, scootch down the bed a bit, and then the gas mask descended. Which I was happy about because it was FREEZING in that OR.
Next thing I knew, I was waking up. Without crying (which I've done in the past, so I was happy about). A few saltines and some ginger ale later (just for a snack, I wasn't nauseous or anything), and it was time to go home!
I was expecting pain, but HOLY CRAMPS BATMAN! They gave me a small amount of morphine at the hospital, and that carried me over until I was able to take my super-ibuprofen pill later. And I had a super sore throat (still kind of do--common side effect from the gas, I think). I took a 2 hour nap when I got home. Steve bought Subway for dinner (yum), and I got to lie around on the couch with the remote for the rest of the evening.
Now it's Thursday morning, and I'm feeling much better! The kids and I have appointments for haircuts, and the girls have Bible Study tonight--hopefully I'll get a nap in this afternoon!
