Visiting with friends

About 4 years ago, my friend, Jeannette,  and her family moved to upstate New York.  We've yet to go and visit them (I am such a bad friend--I swear it's because my car would NOT make it there and back!), but luckily, they made a trip to RI this summer.

--

We went to visit them at Burlingame Campground in Charlestown, RI, and let me tell you!  I am a RI'er through and through, because I was like, DUDE, I just drove an HOUR to see you!   Why I was shocked that it took that long is a mystery to me--I knew where I was going, but there you have it.

--

So, after driving an hour (plus the time it took me to stop and buy more lunch meat--Eli was with me, extra rations were needed), driving past the entrance, turning around, finding the entrance, going into the visitor center, waiting in line for 20 minutes to show the lady my license and give her my plate #, getting lost going to Jeannette's cabin, and then finally FINDING Jeannette's cabin, we had arrived!

--

The kids immediately changed into bathing suits, and we brought the kids down to the lake.  I wasn't comfortable leaving the kids down there, so I got a beach chair out of the car and settled in.  Sometimes I worry that we're overprotective, but Steve always says that hey, we've already buried a baby, so if we want to be a little protective, people will have to DEAL.

--

For kids that hadn't seen each other in a few years, they got on just fine.  I cracked up at Eamon and Eli--they're six months apart in age, and exactly identical in "I can count your ribs" skinniness!

Cracks me up.  Check out the identical chicken wings they've got going on. LOL

The girls, enjoying the lake

Jeannette joined me at the beach, and we had a nice visit.  When the kids were done swimming, we went back to the campsite.  The kids built a fire (when is that not fun?), and I spent an hour chatting and simultaneously avoiding the smoke from the fire.  Wherever I sat, the wind would blow the smoke right on to me.

--

One thing's for sure.  I am not a camper.  Call me a wimp.  Call me a bad mom.  But after just 2 hours at the camp, I was ready for a shower.  Bugs, smoke, dirt....*huge shudder*.  I'll take a hotel room anyday!  But the visit was fun, and I'm so glad we went!  As soon as I have a new car, I am making the trip to NY!
