High speed internet & Fire drills

we will have high-speed internet by this evening.  Actually this afternoon.  The Cox Communications tech should be coming between 1 and 3.

After 2 weeks of no internet, and then the last week with dial-up, I'm about to go crazy.  What did I do with my time before internet?  Or before I worked?  No clue.  But we did have cable then, so I could get my news by watching TV.  Now there's no cable (I think we'll be turning it back on in August--just in time for football season!), so I get my news online.  And having been spoiled with high-speed for 15 months, so this dial-up feels like going back to the dark ages.

And, now that the desk & computer are in the school/office, the kids will be allowed to use it a lot more (theoretically).  Before, the desk was in our bedroom, and I just wasn't comfortable leaving the kids unattended in my room (Patience, especially, tends to wander about, "looking" at things.  I can just picture it, "Mommy, what is warming gel?" OY!).

So now I need recommendations for kid-friendly (and for the most part, educational) websites.  Fire away!  WHICH, reminds me of a funny story I read in a journal I have....

When Eli was 3 years old, he pulled the fire alarm in our church.  The whole building needed to be cleared, fire trucks came, the whole she-bang!  It scared the living daylights out of him, and was pretty embarrassing for me, to boot!  But that isn't the funny part.

The funny part is that after that happened (I think the next day), Eli had to go to the bathroom.  He was potty trained, but still at the point where I was accompanying him to the rest room.  I set him up and said, "Fire away!". His reply?  "No say that word, Mommy!!"  Thank goodness it has turned into a funny family story and not a therapy session!

Of course, it wasn't so funny when 3 years later, Patience did the same thing....SIGH. LOL
