I feel like blogging, yet have nothing of note to report. What's a girl to do?
Well, I guess I could mention that we started school this week. LOL Of course, life being what it is, we got two good days in, went to the county fair yesterday, and today just got math done. SIGH. Something always comes up to get in the way of "school work".
Today it was a dental appointment for Maddie at the un-godly hour of 8:30am. We didn't get in from the county fair (and we didn't even see who won the pony pull!) until 9pm, and the kids were tired. The girls did NOT want to get up, and even the temptation of chocolate chip pancakes wasn't getting them up. It ended up being a bit hectic, but we arrived on time.
Maddie's teeth look great. She does have a gap between her two front teeth, and the dentist said that something may have to be done about that, but not for a few years. I promptly forgot what he said the problem was, because I have enough things to occupy my mind without thinking about dental procedures that MAY take place years from now!
Then it was a quick stop at the grocery store. I had exactly $10.06 in my pocket--milk, eggs, 3 apples, oatmeal, 2 lbs. of maccaroni--$8.14 later, and we were out the door. Once home, Maddie wanted her pancakes. SIGH.
I set Eli down with his math while she ate. I am doing LLATL Yellow Book with the two of them this year. I figured teaching them together would be easier, not counting on the fact that scheduling time to sit both of them down (I am NOT doing the lesson twice in a day) is easier said than done. Someone always has a chore that hasn't been completed or teeth that haven't been brushed yet or is eating pancakes, at which point I just get the other kid started on something else and the language arts gets put aside.
Eli took almost 2 hours to do 4 pages of math. Ahhh, school time. I love that boy dearly, but he has the attention span of a gnat. He also had a play date scheduled for this afternoon, and I would have cancelled if he hadn't finished. He did, and I dropped him off at 1:20pm. It is 5:46, and he should be home any minute.
Patience did 2 pages in her Explode the Code book (she's in book 3) and her math (we use School of Tomorrow Paces) with very little help from me. We also read a few pages from The Complete Book of Animals ...I now know interesting facts about Tasmanian devils, Platypus' and .....darn, I can't remember the third animal. It will come to me.
The girls also watched The Muppets Treasure Island while Eli was out. (He's home now, btw--5:50pm.)
Taco Soup is in the crock-pot, just waiting for the kids to complain about it. Patience has already declared that she will not eat it; she dislikes beans. I also made 2 sheets of oatmeal raisin bar cookies. I don't usually make them as bar cookies, but I was just too tired to be pulling cookie sheets in and out of the oven all afternoon.
Ack--that last Australian animal...it was some kind of bird...oh, hold on, it's coming to me--YES--a Kookaburra!! I rock!!! I also have the "Barney" song about Kookaburras stuck in my head now.
Time to go eat dinner. I'm so glad I didn't have anything to blog about.....
