The girls have been begging me to pull them out, and we finally did.
Since it's autumn, we decided to go with some fall-themed cupcakes. We had a family get-together last Saturday evening, so it was the perfect time to share some goodies. My son and my aunt share a birthday, so we made a chocolate cake for that, as well.
Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes
| We went to a cake decorating shop to buy the orange liners. This seems to be as bright as the orange food coloring wanted to make the frosting. |
| The cake decorating shop also had the orange-colored granulated sugar that we needed. |
| Oooh, pretty. |
| The recipe called for you to make indentations in the cupcake before piping the frosting lines on them, but I just didn't have time for that. |
| Green Twizzlers made great stems. |
| A friend told me about a local candy shop that I'd never heard of before--we were able to get the green licorice laces there. |
| Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting--and chocolate leaves. We cleaned & dried leaves from our yard, then painted them with melted chocolate. After going in the freezer for a bit, the leaves peeled right off. |
Next up were Indian Corn Cupcakes.
| Phyllo dough made great (though brittle) corn husks. |
| Vanilla frosting tinted with cocoa, then topped with jelly beans. |
Finding all of the ingredients was a bit of a pain in the butt, BUT :) these weren't hard to make at all. We'll definitely be pulling these books out again!
So could you come live in my spare room and be my cook? There's no bed or covering on the bathroom window and I have 2 children who don't sleep and a loud cat, but I think we would have a lot of fun! haha
ReplyDeleteROFLOL That's a pretty attractive offer! :)
ReplyDeleteYour cakes are lovely and I'm sure were appreciated by those fortunate enough to try them. This is my first visit to your blog but I'll be back. You've created a lovely spot for your readers to visit and I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
