As some of you know, my daughter Abigail's birthday is coming up soon. It's always a sad time of year, just thinking of what could have been, and how much I miss her. This year she would be turning sixteen years old. I can hardly believe it's been that long.
One of the songs off of Chris Rice's Amusing cd has always made me think of Abigail. It's kind of a love song, but the relationship between mother and child is very much a love story. The song is called "Breakfast Table", and it makes me think of all of the things I'll be able to do with Abigail once we're together forever in Heaven.
(Disclaimer: Of course I have the hope that I will see Abigail and be with her in Heaven--this gives me a great deal of comfort and joy. But the fact is, I miss her. Even though I have that hope. Honestly, I have yet to listen to this song--the cd came out in 2005--without choking up a bit. I just thought I'd put that out there in case anyone was thinking about jumping all over me for not seeming like I have enough faith or something--I do, I just miss my little girl.)
Too far to hear my lonely song
Or is it just my imagination I hear you humming along
I only hold you in my dreams now
I wake up with cold and empty arms
Lord help me get through this long night without you
And soon as the morning comes
Soon as the morning comes
Save me a seat at the breakfast table
Save me a dance around the Milky Way
And save me a thousand years to whisper in your ears
All I’ve wanted to say
Save me a smile and an angel’s feather
Save me a walk down the streets of gold
And baby, we’ll change our minds just like old times
And maybe we’ll just fly away
Or maybe we’ll stay
My lucky doll, you’re in heaven before me
You were my taste of heaven here
Remember we loved to talk about it, we couldn’t wait to get there
So you go on and find your way around now
But remember I’m here missing you
Do me a favor and say hey to Jesus
And tell him I’m missing him too
Tell him I’m missing him too
Then save me a seat at the breakfast table
Save me a dance around the Milky Way
And save me a thousand years to whisper in your ears
All I’ve wanted to say
Save me a smile and an angel’s feather
Save me a walk down the streets of gold
And baby, we’ll change our minds just like old times
And maybe we’ll just fly away
Or maybe we’ll stay
Oh, Amanda! I was just thinking about you this morning. I have a friend, Laura, who lost her little boy just over a year ago (http://thelifeofazumwalt.blogspot.com/2011/05/whole-year-later.html) and I am just on awe of the strength you two display. I can only imagine how hard it must be--I am tearing up just writing this--and I am so blessed by your faith.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post Amanda. I think the song is just perfect.
