Eli has been having trouble sleeping lately. Trouble going to sleep. Trouble staying asleep. Trouble falling back asleep once he's woken up. This has created a vicious cycle where he won't fall asleep, get upset because he can't fall asleep, start crying, get a headache....
We've been praying Psalm 4:8 with him, "I will lay me down in peace and sleep, for you Oh Lord, make me to dwell in safety." It's a verse my dad used to say to my sister and I every night (practically) before we went to bed. So I'm having Eli memorize it, as well as praying with him nightly.
I keep saying to him, "Peace, sleep, safety!"
Another thing I'm noticing, though, is that he isn't sleeping deeply. Or feeling like he is? He'll wake up (at 11:30 last night--he thought he was falling out of bed and scared me to bits--"Help, help!!" ) and tell me that he hasn't slept at all! When in fact he was out like a light when we checked on him. Or that it took him hours to fall asleep, when it was only 30 minutes or so. Hmmm....maybe what he needs is a clock in his room!
Well, I finally caved and called the doctor today. Eli's been so emotional lately--getting some more sleep can only help. Dr. Z (who's been seeing the kids since before Eli was born!) said to pick up a bottle of the vitamin Melatonin. One tablet 30 minutes before bedtime and keep a consistent bedtime. I should also keep a sleep journal for him.
If this doesn't work within 3 weeks, we'll go in and see the doctor.
