Story of the Day 9/27/11

Better late than never, eh?  We finally read our story tonight around 7pm.  Hey, homeschooling is all about flexibility, right?

One of our favorite books of fall is (again!) a Five in a Row book.  How to Make an Apple Pie and see the world  is a delightful book by Marjorie Priceman that follows a little girl as she travels the world collecting ingredients for a homemade apple pie.

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World (Dragonfly Books)

Semolina wheat from Italy, cinnamon from Sri Lanka, apples from Vermont...she zigzags across the globe picking up what she needs.  The illustrations are so much fun, and you get an apple pie recipe at the end!  I highly recommend this book--read it once just for fun, or use it as a jumping off point for geography, baking, measuring (math!) and fun conversations about where the food in our grocery store really comes from. :)  Bon appetit!
